Product Reviews:
While driving home, the engine revved up, an engine light came on and vehicle died. I had it towed to Land Rover dealer in Maryland, and was told the engine locked and the vehicle needed a new engine. Extended warranty took care of a refurbished engine after being in the shop for a month. After replacement of the engine, light and revving continued. The vehicle has been in the shop over 15 times for engine light issues. I even had a new wiring harness placed on the vehicle for $1100. The engine light came back on three weeks later. After randomly speaking to people who I come across with the same vehicle, I discovered that the engine light is a common problem. One man told me his engine light has been on for 3 years. Words cannot describe my frustration with the service I have received from the various Land Rover dealerships here in DE and PA. Anything from not receiving a call back at all, selling me rims with chipped powder coating that they could not remedy, shop foreman telling me that my car does not have keyless entry when it did (and he was not able to get it working), to waiting almost 3 hours in the service department with nothing done on my car only to learn that the staff was out to lunch for most of that time... The list goes on and on. *By far the most unprofessional & disorganized bunch of meatheads I have ever met -- consistently bad experience between the below dealerships: Wilmington, DE, Willow Grove, PA, West Chester, PA.I'm left to believe that this is just business as usual for Land Rover, which only reinforces the thought that I should have never left Mercedes and BMW (West Chester, PA). Those dealership service departments were PHENOMENAL!!! Going to ride out the remaining 1 year warranty then get back to a car that I know, can provide better service. I love my car, just hate the service I've received to date. Good luck consumers.paige of Wilmington, DE

My 2012 Range Rover Sport Supercharged V8 was a wonderful car to drive, beautiful interior, looked amazing from the outside as well. I didn't have any complaints with it other than it was expensive to repair when things came up, and they did. But I knew what I was getting into and when you buy an expensive, luxury vehicle you expect this. What I didn't expect was a timing chain failure that destroyed the engine at 77,000 miles. What made this worse were a couple things.I apparently was wrong about the extended warranty I purchased. The dealer played the extended warranty as a way to buy extra coverage once the manufacturers warranty ended. This would have given me coverage for another year and or up to 80k mileage, which is what I thought I bought. Apparently Rovers don't get that type of coverage offered to customers because insurance companies know the issues are common in Rovers so they only offer extended warranty's that coincide with the manufacturers. Tells you something about their track record. I obviously didn't read the fine print on the warranty I bought and missed it covering this tragedy by 3k miles and 3 months. To fix the engine on this vehicle you have to replace it with a used one (about $12k) if you can find it or a new one ($30k). When I started digging into this I found out that Land Rover's V8 supercharged engines (also in Jaguar) have this timing chain failure happen all the time. I called a mechanic who specialized in Jag and Land Rovers and I began telling him my problem. He took over the conversation and began asking me questions like (is it a 2010-16?, is it the V8 supercharged? was it a timing chain failure? Did it have around 80k miles on it?). I was blown away as if he was a mind reader or something. Turns out, this happens so often and he repairs them so frequently that he knew exactly the situation I was in. He said it's typically a $7-8k service call. That it happens all the time. I was really pissed off as you can imagine. My dealer was downplaying it like I was just some unfortunate person, like one in a million that this happens to. As I went online and started searching for information on this I realized that this is flaw in Land Rover/Jaguar's v8 supercharged engines across their entire line. They know it. They deny it. And my guess is because buyers of these vehicles like myself have money, they just chalk it up as "darn this must be my bad luck, oh well" and don't say anything or make a big deal about it.I'm not either other than writing this review I guess but my valued at $30k rover I had to salvage for $7k while I still owed $16k on the loan. I lost $23k in value because of a common engine component failure. Will I buy this great looking, good handling, awesome car ever again... no. So for all of you out there who want to own or do own one of these Jag/Land Rover V8's... Be very aware of this problem. It could cost you a bundle.Matt of Chico, CA

Land Rover sent out a recent notice for my 2011 Range Rover. It was a familiar message because I could smell gas in and around the car while it was parked after only six weeks of owning it. The letter says to call Land Rover's main number and reference the recall for support. Guess what? There's no option on the phone menu other than for Takata airbag recall, and if you wait in line, it loops you back to the menu again. I was able to get a rep by hitting the airbag option, who told me they knew nothing and called the dealer. A call to the dealer yielded no information as they knew nothing either. The dealer said, "We got a letter too but don't know any more information.". The trouble is I don't want to be at the end of a list with 50k other cars on it to get this problem fixed. Some folks aren't impacted by it right now and given I can't drive, it would be helpful to prioritize anybody whose car is dangerous to operate.Matthew of Placerville, CA

Have a Range Rover Sport- bought in August 2014. The car is 6 months old. The car door handle has fallen off. Range rover claims it is not a warranty problem. Poor customer service. A high end vehicle like Range Rover should stand behind their product. A car that is 6 months old should not be missing a handle!!! Nor should I have to pay out of pocket to get the handle replaced as it should never have fallen off in the first place. Dealership told us they have had numerous cars come in with this issue. A defect in the car??? Maybe Range Rover should stand behind their product and not tell customers that it's a wear n tear problem. Not when the car is NEW.Franca of Woodbridge, ON

We purchased a Range Rover Sport in March 2015 and we have had issues since we bought it. License plate fell off while driving 3 times even after we took it back on day 2 of owning it and they said it wouldn't come off again. That was fun to find. Week 3 of ownership the check engine light came on. Took it in to have it serviced and was told it was just an oxygen sensor and they had fixed it. Week 4 of ownership, check engine light back on, back in for service for 3 days and they said they fixed it but may need to order an oxygen sensor if it comes back on. Week 8 of ownership I was sitting at a stop light. When the light turned green the car would not go and showed a display of put in drive (or something similar), the car was in drive. I had to shut the car off and it still wouldn't engage in drive. I put the car in low gear and got it off the road. After a little while I started the car and it went back in gear. Called the dealer and they said it would have to go completely out for them to be able to do anything and that it must have been a glitch. This happened 3 more times. Week 12 of ownership display won't respond to touch until car is off and restarted. After 6 months of owning the car the "coolant low" alert shows up and the check engine light is back on. Back in for service. They change the oxygen sensor and tell me that my water pump needs to be changed and that my car needed an update that would fix the display issue and the car not going into drive. Went to dealership because my car is in for service again. Thought we would trade it in to get rid of the thing. They say they can't certify it is a pre owned special because of all the issues and it will take them forever to get the issues fixed. I'm losing money. An $80K car should last longer than 6 months. Why should I lose money when the car they sold me is a POC? Land Rover should pay off my car and give me back my down payment in full. I was warned that Land Rover wasn't the quality that I was looking for but I liked the car and decided to give it a chance. I learned my lesson the hard way.Jerri of Woodruff, SC

I have leased a Land Rover Evoque 2015 (new) - it has 92000 km and my lease is up Jan 2019. On July 14 the engine just stopped - I had it towed to a local mechanic. I wanted to make sure it was not just a battery issue (quick review) - I was told that the engine had experienced a catastrophic failure and caused the top of the engine block to blow off. I then had it towed to Metro West - where they just sat on the car for over two weeks- Always telling me that they are working on it with Land Rover. On July 27 I went into the dealer and demanded answers. The Service manager gave me a toll free number to Land Rover. I made the call and they had no record of my vehicle issue. It then takes Land Rover until Aug 03 - to tell me that if I went through them they would put in up to 3500.00 on repairs. They only want to replace with new engine (cost 18,000.00). Still they have not investigated why this happened. All service was performed, with the proper oil - there was no tell tail signs that there was an issue, the engine had the proper amount of oil. I have all records and photos of engine, plus a letter with a licensed mechanic opinion. On Aug 07 - I have towed my car from Metro West and brought it to my regular mechanic OK Hi Standard Tire. Through all this I have rented my own car - which I need to get myself prepared for a kidney transplant and work. I have asked Hi Standard tire to take all photos and see if we can determine what failed internally. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Lou of Bolton, ON

The variety of cars I browsed was overwhelming. There was so much to choose from, and they each were very affordable and tailored to my needs. I had a hard time choosing which to get. The Land Rover that I ended up buying was a very beautiful car. It was sleek, shiny and not too big but was well equipped in the passenger capacity. It could easily fit six grown adults very comfortably and it was guaranteed a safe choice. Also, It's features were all wonderful. It included a gps, radio and state of the art car alarm. It had features implemented so that I was able to add some of my electronic devices which include my iPod and satellite radio.Jennifer of Houston, TX

I just purchased a 2018 Range Rover HSE TD6 Diesel Black Package, very expensive, took five months to get after order. To date about six weeks of owning car (4,000 miles), the unit is experiencing major electrical, computer malfunctions such as backup camera, not working, computer (dash), not working or black, lumbar supports and massage seats not working, USB ports not working or charging, phone once paired not working, had to delete and re-pair. The problem is the dealer really doesn't know what or how to diagnose or fix the problem. Thank God I had stopped back by the dealership for a tech question and the technician witnessed some of the problems, too expensive of a car to have this many problems, might be time for a Lemon Law attorney.Michael of Lake Elsinore, CA
