GMC, formerly the General Motors Truck Company, or the GMC Truck and Coach Division, is a division of the American automobile manufacturer General Motors that primarily focuses on trucks and utility vehicles. GMC currently makes SUVs, pickup trucks, vans, and light-duty trucks, catered to a premium based market.

The 2025 GMC Sierra HD lineup includes heavy-duty 2500HD, 3500HD, and 4500HD/5500HD chassis cab models, designed for serious towing, hauling, and professional use.

Engine & Drivetrain
The gasoline-powered models offer a standard 6.6 L V8 that produces about 401 hp and 464 lb-ft of torque. The diesel variant uses a 6.6 L Duramax turbocharged V8, delivering around 475 hp and a robust 1,050 lb-ft of torque. These engines are paired with a 10-speed automatic transmission. Rear-wheel drive is standard, with four-wheel drive available.

Towing & Payload
Towing capacity tops out at approximately 36,000 lb with the diesel-powered 3500HD in dual-rear-wheel dually configuration. The 2500HD tow ratings reach roughly 20,000 lb, while payload ratings max out near 7,000 lb depending on cab, bed, and axle configuration. Chassis cab variants offer customizable wheelbases and body options for commercial use.

Configurations & Features
Cab options include Regular, Double, and Crew Cab, with standard and long-box beds for 2500HD and 3500HD. The 4500/5500 chassis cab models offer customizable solutions, ideal for service bodies, flatbeds, or aftermarket conversions.

Fuel Economy & Efficiency
The diesel Duramax models offer better highway fuel efficiency around 17–19 mpg, while the gas V8 models average closer to 11–13 mpg combined. Real-world figures depend heavily on load, terrain, and driving habits.

Technology & Comfort
Trim levels range from work-focused WT (Work Truck) to luxurious Denali Ultimate. Higher trims offer amenities like leather upholstery, heated & ventilated seats, premium Bose audio, dual digital displays, head-up display, and heated steering wheel. All models include GMC’s Pro Safety suite, and Denali trims add Super Cruise hands-free highway driving and a 360° camera system.

Utility & Options
Available features include dual alternators, onboard generators (Pro Power Onboard), several trailer camera views, integrated trailer brake controller, multicolor bed lighting, power-locking tailgate, and a factory-installed spray-on bedliner option. The diesel Duramax can come with a built-in DEF (diesel exhaust fluid) tank located under the bed for easy access.

Pricing & Value
Entry-level Sierra 2500HD WT starts around US $45,000. Moving up to SLT, AT4 (off-road), Denali, and Denali Ultimate, prices range from US $55,000 to over US $90,000 fully equipped. Dually 3500HD Denali Ultimate models typically cost over US $100,000 before options.

Summary

Product Reviews:

My wife and I bought our GMC Acadia new in 2011 and we have put more money into this vehicle than our Dodge truck we bought 15 years ago. First the struts were blown out the third year we owned it and also a stabilizer bar and most recently the throttle sensor went bad and so the entire throttle body needed to be replaced and also some reprogramming supposedly. Not impressed with this GMC - could be the last one we ever own. Oh and of course the later fix gmc weasled around the warranty knowing which parts are junk and how to get around covering junk parts.

This is our second ownership of a GMC Acadia since it was rolled out in 2007. As a family member of a former GM Employee, we purchased a 2007 GMC Acadia under the GM Employee program. That vehicle was plagued with problems. DVD player issues, fuel injectors, radiator, engine coils, trim rattles, the list goes on. The problems were so bad that the car was being taken to the dealership monthly and in some cases weekly. In 2009, we reached out to GMC at the advice of our service manager. GMC offered us 3 free oil changes for our troubles. Hardly a repayment for all the problems we had with the vehicle. To make a long story short, I contacted the BBB, filed a complaint and GM purchased the vehicle back as a Lemon. In 2009, using the refund from the buyback through the GM employee program, we purchased another GMC Acadia. This time the current 2009. We were told by the dealership that all of the issues that plagued the initial roll out had been fixed. This is certainly not the case. Again, we have had the same problems with the car being in and out of the dealership on monthly and sometimes weekly basis. Fortunately, they have all been covered under warranty until this most recent wave of problems.Several of these issues have put my family and me in great danger. Very early on in the car, when the fuel injectors broke, we were traveling home from vacation when the vehicle powered down on its own (to protect the engine) in the middle of a very busy freeway, I could not pull it over. We were stuck with semi-trucks racing past and my children crying in the back seat. All I could do was pray we didn't get smashed from behind while we wait for a tow truck. Another time is when the wave plate exploded in the transmission. I was driving my newborn baby home from the hospital! My wife, fresh out of a C-section, and my 5 day old newborn are stuck on a freeway because the transmission broke (which GM knew about because they issued a Special Warranty for its repair.)For the past month, my car has been at the dealership, due to catalytic converters that are clogged and needing to be replaced, then the timing chain needs to be replaced (which GM issues a special warranty to cover the cost) and now I am being told that the oil pump, pickup tube, and oil screen is filled with sludge and will cost me $1,600 to replace. I change my oil every 3,000 to 4,000 miles or when the oil gauge on the vehicle says 50% remaining. How on earth is there that much sludge. Turns out, after doing an internet search, that this is a common problem with the Acadia and there are pages and pages of customer complaints saying the exact same thing! All of which GM denies.GM knows the Acadia is bad. My service rep says he has never seen a vehicle with so many special warranty items issued on the car. My car needs to be purchased back as it is unsafe and unreliable and GM says they will give me $2,000. Sad considering I have given them 2 chances now. GM will not stand behind their products or do the right thing. They have forever lost a customer.

The engine switched off while I am driving my 2010 Acadia on the 2nd of September 2012. Fortunately, I was driving in a service road on low speed so I handled the situation. However, I recovered the car to Ras Al Khor service center where they kept the car for over than 6 working days to resolve the issue, which is as per their diagnoses was a wiring problem led to electricity short in the car. They handed over the car to me on 10th of September under supervision of Mr. **, delivery coordinator who confirmed that the issue is resolved. However, last Tuesday, 2nd of October, I was driving my car when the engine switched off again without any sign. I would assure you that it’s only my good luck that I wasn’t driving my car on high speed and I luckily handled the situation in both incidents. I really lost the trust in my car which I directly bought from GMC and did all the services through your service centers. Mr. ** (the service manager) assured me that he will personally take care of my car problem and he will call me back, which he didn’t. And till now, nobody called me and all I got are false promises.

I see the complaints are about everything but the 2010 model. At 70,000 miles we just began experiencing hard start after refueling. Otherwise a wonderful vehicle.

I've just purchased this 2007 Arcadia four months ago. Was excited at first, but now really disappointed. Audio system isn't good at all, goes on and off. Now it been out for a month. All these reviews I been reading, people have the same issue and GMC not trying to make it right. Thinking about trading it already and not purchase anymore GMC. Because it's sad the money they made off people and don't make an attempt to make it right.

Please be advised that this letter of complaint pertains to my 2011 GMC Acadia Denali car. On April 9, 2011, I brought the car in for service at Miller Buick GMC, 920 Route 1 North, Woodbridge, NJ. I informed the service dept. that the steering wheel makes a swishing noise when making turns with the car. Following an inspection of the car, I was informed that the rack and pinion had to be replaced and that this part was under recall due to faulty manufacturing and would be replaced at no charge.Fast forward 3 years later to March 4, 2014 and for the 2nd time, I bring the car in for not only an oil change but again, the steering wheel makes a swishing noise when making turns with the car. Following an inspection of the car I was informed that the rack and pinion had to be replaced for the second time and that this would cost an estimated $1,735.00 plus tax. When inquiring about this part, I was informed that this part has been corrected by GMC due to it being faulty when the car was manufactured. So the new rack and pinion part should not have the same problem once it is replaced. My concern is this, I purchased a brand new GMC Acadia Denali and it was manufactured with a faulty part during production. I have paid and still paying top dollar on this car note. Why is GMC billing me for $1,735.00 plus tax on a part that was faulty to begin with? This is poor automotive business. I have been a customer of GMC since 1986 for other vehicles. This Acadia car is only 3 years old and should not have this same problem a 2nd time around. Please be advised that I am requesting that GMC replace the rack and pinion for the 2nd time, with no cost to me as the consumer due to faulty manufacturing at the time of production of the car. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I am the owner of a 2008 GMC Acadia. This vehicle has approximately 78,900 miles on it. Due to transmission issues, which is still covered under my powertrain warranty, it has been at Cooper Buick GMC in Monroe, LA since last Tuesday, 5/29/12. I was informed that GMC will only furnish me a rental for five days. The rental was picked up on Thursday, 5/31. Today, I was informed that I must return the rental. I am employed and must have transportation. I feel that as long as the dealership is holding my vehicle for warranty work, GM should furnish me with a rental. I am highly upset about this. My husband and I were seriously considering purchasing another Acadia but unless this issue is resolved, we will never purchase another GM product and will make sure other customers, friends and relatives are made aware of this situation. We are not wealthy and a rental vehicle is not in our budget. This is creating a difficult situation for us. Please respond to this complaint as soon as possible.

After I tow my new acadia awd denali, even for a short distance, the vehicle will back up but won't go forward until I turn it off several time and let it run for a long time, until the fluid lubricates the awd system. Have taken to dealer with no satisfaction. Is anyone else having this same problem?

I purchased a 2007 GMC Acadia in 2006 brand new. When I had about 38,000 miles on it I would hear a clunk when I would turn left or right took it to the dealership several times. They could not hear it. I finally gave up on it. Then my transmission went out & I called the attorney general after paying about 4000 dollars to get it fixed. Two weeks after I called them I received a letter in the mail and they had a recall & I got my money back. Now the rack & pinion had to be replace. I'm very upset as I when on the internet And found out that several other people have had the same problem. If anyone still has a Acadia please call this number as this is a safety issue that should be address for our safety and our children's safety. The # is 888-327-4236. It cost me 1400 dollars for the rack & pinion to be replaced when I feel that they could have the solved the problem if they would have just check underneath the car. I now know that is why it would always clunk.

So got the Acadia and fell in love, it fit our family of 6 perfectly! Soon after I noticed the passenger front and back windows would hesitate to roll down sometimes...over looked it because I was so happy to have it, then came the air bag light - it was a known issue but no one could do anything about it to clear it out! Now mind you I got my car in Jan so it was cold, now we're getting into summer and running the ac more and it makes this loud screeching noise when it's on low. I was told it was from water leaking in from the sunroof, GREAT! All these problems are bothersome but not so costly. The biggest problem came today. I was driving with my 2 kids, stopped at a red light, got ready to take off and it was like someone unplugged the car - it just wouldn't go. Luckily I was coming down off a slight incline so I was able to roll into a parking lot where the check engine light came on. And I'm being told Its $2500 to rebuild the transmission and put a new wave plate in (the wave plate is what broke in the transmission causing the issue) but they can't guarantee it will last more than 10,000 miles because there could have been more damage done by the broken wave plate. They can give it a full check for $127 a hr or I could get a new transmission for $4000. Of course my warranty ended last year and there is no recall for this issue that so many people are having. I absolutely love everything about this car but what's the point of having a really nice car if you can't drive it and 11 months into it I'm having all these issues. I will definitely be trading this vehicle in the first chance I get! GM is supposed to be the best of the best but that's definitely not the case. GMC Acadia is like a cubic zirconia, looks good but worth absolutely nothing!
