Product Reviews:
In a period of last 12 months, my 2010 BMW X5 has had the following failures, which leads me to believe either that BMW has no quality in their products or this SUV is just a lemon. 1. Check Engine Light - Radiator replaced in Jan 2014. 2. Car slows down in the middle of the road and stops - Fuel pump bushings replaced in Aug 2014. 3. AC stops working - AC leak Schraeder valve- Aug 14 4. Thrust rod replaced - Aug 14 5. Check engine light on - Oil leak from Oil Filter Housing - Nov 146. High pitched noise from the hood - Crank Case Vent system - Dec 14Called BMW for the last problem today and they just washed their hands off. Leads me to believe that they don't stand behind their product. Buyers beware. Do your research before you buy. There is certainly no driving experience here. It is the fear of your car stalling at any time.Madan of Suwanee, GA

With X-drive the BMW 428 2014 is a year-round, all weather car (as long as you don’t need clearance!) Fun to drive, good mileage, superb handling. Would definitely buy again.Charles of Potomac, MD

I have a BMW X3 2005 Model with approximately 60,000 miles. On 2-7-12, the heated seat caught on fire and burned a hole through the leather seat the size of a cigar. I contacted the local dealership and they said there was no recall on this subject. This raises a great concern to me, as you can imagine, a number of instances could happen with this defect; car catching on fire, car accident, burns, and etc. I am requesting some information and assistance to this matter.Stacey of Grand Rapids, MI

In the last two months, I've had to replace the battery and the ENTIRE I-drive (a.k.a.--brain) in my 2009 BMW 328I series with 26,000 miles (not a typo, I have another car) to the tune of nearly $3,000! I purchased the car new at the BMW dealership in Tulsa. I am furious and disappointed in BMW! I had such high hopes for this supposedly high performance auto. The dealership in Tulsa seemed at a loss to explain why this would happen in a car with such low mileage, yet didn't hesitate to charge full fees. The car is barely out of warranty. I would love to find out who the regional manager is in Oklahoma and am pursuing that now.Sherri of Tulsa, OK

BMW decided to charge me an extra months payment after the trade-in of my car. I didn't even own the car at that point. Couldn't drive it, couldn't see it. Of course customer service was condescending trying to make me feel like I am stupid for request my funds returned for an item I didn't have use over. From one to the other rep I spoke with didn't even know the correct policies of the company for different situations. I got the runaround. Learn from my mistake, avoid BMW!Erik of Milwaukee, WI

I just purchased a new 2015 BMW 328i xDrive from my local BMW dealership about 6 months before I received a transmission fault warning and the car had rolled while in park into oncoming traffic crashing into a guardrail. Luckily the car rolled so slowly, it only caused very minimal scratches to the front bumper and no one was hurt. I made a complaint to BMW North America and had the car inspected. When I first left at the dealership, BMW let me know it would be looked at by the in house mechanics as well as their corporate team, and that they would keep me updated on the inspection progression. This process took over a month and when I inquired about the car, the dealership informed me the final corporate inspection was done 2 weeks prior to my inquiry; and that they were told someone in their corporate division was supposed to notify me of the report. Since no one would tell me what the status of my car was, I called the corporate office where I was told the car was looked at, and the mechanics were unable to find any significant faults or factory defects. Since no factory defects were found, BMW took no responsibility to what happened to my car, told me it was safe to drive and that they would sent me a report of the inspection.BMW never sent me the promised report of the inspection and I didn't not want the car back as it felt very unsafe. I've owned the car only 6 months and put less than 4,000 miles on the car before this terrifying incident occurred. BMW told me the car was valued now at only $27,000 of the original $60,000 and would suffer the difference to return it.Before this car, I owned a 2003 325xi, which had a manufacturer recall in the driver and passenger seat heating system causing the seats to overheat. The seat heaters burned holes in each seat through the leather, burning my thigh in the drivers seat. I notified BMW of this and they told me they would only fix the burned drivers seat, not the burned passengers seat because the car was out of warranty, and that I was lucky they would even fix that.I made the mistake of buying a BMW not once but twice now, thinking they had well manufactured cars and mediocre customer service. Now I am certain they have unsafe cars and terrible if any customer service. I feel very generous giving BMW 1 star but 0 isn't an option. If you are looking to purchase a new or used BMW, do yourself a favor and buy an Audi instead.Sarah of New Milford, CT

BMW has made a nasty turn for the worse. I am a loyal customer over a decade and have purchased 6 BMWs for me and my family to enjoy over the years. I am on my 6th BMW which happened to be a CERTIFIED PRE-OWNED BMW. The last 5 were purchased New and after the CPO experience being described to me by a sales associate, I determined to purchase a CPO BMW instead of new. What a mistake! The car was visually perfect and mechanically appeared fine on the test drive before purchase, but there were a plethora of engine and transmission issues the week after purchase. With less than 30,000 miles, I had no idea what I was getting into with this plagued car, not to mention all the interior cracks and creaking and the deferred maintenance that no one paid any attention to on the vehicle.I asked BMW North America for compensation for my time spent, almost 20 hours of driving, waiting, telephone calls, troubleshooting, exchanging rental cars, paying for rental cars, etc. and after 3 weeks they called me back stating that they will not honor any compensation. Disgusting. This will be my last BMW, and I will be sure to share this experience with my circle of car enthusiasts.Andrew of Los Angeles, CA

My battery needed to be replaced and to my surprise the dealer installed an "Exide" brand battery on 20 Feb 2013 and I was told it has 4 years Warranty. I believe that is not proper or even BMW policy to replaced BMW factory built battery with "Exide" brand battery. Now the battery is discharging and needed to be replaced and the dealer claim that it is out of Warranty because he only give 4 years Warranty on a new cars, and 2 years Warranty on old cars. My car is 2006 BMW 750li. I will no longer do business with (BMW Katy - Texas dealer). Please advise on how to solve this matter? or give any suggestion about an "Exide" brand battery service center to honors my Warranty in Houston.Walid of Houston, TX

After reading through the majority of complaints here, I've come to the conclusion that it is either the failure of the consumer to research the product carefully or expectations that are unrealistic and do not disclose the full story. For those that have had a bad sales experience, it is a failure of the dealership employing sales people that do not know their product and over promising and under delivering. If you buy a used car especially over 85k, as I read regarding the X5, expect it to have mechanical failures with some parts that require maintenance, i.e. cooling system parts such as t-stats and water pumps. Modern cars that are built by teams of suppliers are all prone to failures of suspension parts, bushings, window regulators, etc. and is an unfortunate result of the economies of building a car, any car. Buying a car because you thought it was prestigious, well, that's just an expectation residing in stupidity. BMW have never stated their x products are true off roaders (look at the wheels and tire profiles!). If you want that, buy a jeep or LandRover or LandCruiser. Navigation systems, blame the software guys (probably Navteq). They provide the disks for everyone in the industry. The car you purchased CPO was state of the art at the time and has evolved quite quickly. All of you expecting a car that is bare bones, be aware that most cars today have ecu/telematics units with more computing power than a Saturn V rocket (that took the Apollo astronauts to the moon). The trans guy? You needed a new clutch probably because you continued to drive the car after the trans light came on in which you probably needed a trans shift solenoid (approx $200). I am on my third car and have been fortunate to own many performance marques, all of which have had their share of issues. For the woman that claimed she was "dismissed" because car was out of warranty, what do you expect? What do you not understand? Out of warranty is out of warranty. You didn't complain if they fixed stuff at their cost within the warranty. Now, it's your turn to incur cost. Cars aren't cost free to maintain. You bought a car. A product. That's it! You didn't do anything to qualify you for winning the Nobel prize so why should your expectation be that they fix your problem? Should they fix everyone else's car on the road that's out of warranty? For the guy with the motor mount issue, your car was probably in an accident. I have seen "CPO'D" cars sold without disclosure of accidents by a major luxury japanese manufacturer and that's not the fault of the marque but the dealership's shoddy and shady selling practices. Conclusion, educate yourself if you buy anything. And stop with blame or false expectations that you're owed something. Car manufacturers step up to the plate to cover you either warranty or goodwill when analytics show there is a problem.Greg of Roswell, GA

I have a 2007 BMW 335i that I bought from a BMW dealer. The car is a CPO car. I have had a constant problem with the car burning oil. It uses about a quart of oil every 750 miles. I took the car into the dealer when I realized that there was indeed a problem. Their course of action was to do an oil study. What that meant was that I had to take it back to the dealer every time that the oil warning indicator went off, and that they would verify that the car had a problem. After many trips and quite a few hours sitting at The BMW Dealer, they did verify that the car was indeed using a lot of oil.On two occasions they kept the car for a few days to check it out. They said that they could find anything wrong with the car. I contacted BMW North America on their website, and they came back, telling me that 750 miles per quart was normal. Since then my CPO warranty has gone out, and I am stuck with this problem. On the plus side, the car is a lot of fun to drive. This has been a bad experience for me. I have had the car in the shop once since then. More problems, amounting to a $1,000.00 repair bill for what should have been minor things. I will never buy another BMW and cannot recommend them to anyone else. I also have a Lexus - five years old and ZERO problems. I would love to hear from anyone else that has had oil issues.Marc of Friendswood, TX
